More about the
EGSA Conference

  • EGSA (English Graduate Student Association) is a graduate student organization dedicated to supporting and representing the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) English graduate students. EGSA sponsors events throughout the year like the EGSA Conference, writing groups, Friday Chats events, and informative gatherings on comprehensive exams, conference papers, navigating the graduate program, and academic job search.

  • The EGSA Conference began in 2013 by graduate students who wanted an organization and conference to showcase students’ research and work across a myriad of interests intersecting with the vast field of English. The conference is aimed at fostering a community and space for students to collaborate and converse on their ideas, interests, and insights they are exploring in graduate school.

  • The EGSA Conference invites graduate students to submit scholarly papers on topics of film and media, including works on: criticism, representation, rhetoric, writing or storytelling, artificial intelligence or digital exploration, race and ethnicity, technology, queer studies, and pedagogy of these areas.

  • We know the key to the heart of students, educators, presenters, and spectators is food. So, YES, there is food BUT the panelists, volunteers, and moderators will be the first to receive food - then any remaining will go to the attendees. To help us know HOW MUCH FOOD TO ORDER, we ask that you RSVP HERE to help us keep count of attendees.

  • The conference will take place on Friday, April 19, 2024 and will be in person on the University of Texas at Arlington campus in central Arlington.

The conference will begin at 9 a.m. and end around 6:15 p.m.

The conference will be in Nedderman Hall 100 (ground floor on the UTA main campus. Here’s a link on Google Maps for the location.

  • The conference is comprised of graduate scholarly papers and research around the theme of film and media. Some of the panels will deal with topics on environments with an apocalypse angle, nations and narrations, stages and adaptations, postracial America, and more. Whether it be diving into Jane Austen’s novel tropes, music during the Vietnam era, Marvel movies and the government, and Disney’s use of narrative and animation, this conference promises to be fascinating and educating!
